WIGGLY TOES

I read once that of all our body parts, the feet are the ones over which we have the least control - apparently because the brain is so far away from the feet that the feet are sometimes left to themselves. Whatever the reason, I wiggle my toes without knowing it.

In fact my feet have on occasion ached more in the morning than when I went to bed. I have concluded that it must be from all the wiggling my toes have been doing during the night.

Lately, I have been more prone to wake up with bite marks than aching feet. And it has become apparent that my toes wiggle a lot!

Nemi thinks that small things that move under the covers are great fun, and of course makes every effort to remove these little critters from our bed before we can go to sleep. As soon as I go to bed, the fun can begin. She sits like a queen on the bed, alertly scouting for any movement.

To begin with, as I am concentrating on not moving my toes, all is fine. But, alas, about one minute into the book I am reading, or after I have put my head on the pillow, my toes start to boogey.

Nemi goes in for the kill and I yelp (which she by the looks of her most likely takes as a suportive cheer). Removing her is futile. As soon as I let her got she sits on the bed again, looking for the wigglers. A "no" stops her then and there. Next time my toes wiggle...

As long as my feet are over the covers, they are safe. Nemi never bites my toes. Since it seems very unlikely that I can stop wiggling my toes. I have tried to convince Nemi that the "under cover wigglers" are in fact my toes. We are having little progress in this matter.

Hopefully she will outgrow this, as I would prefer to sleep with my feet under the cover this winter.
